The new list: 100+ resorts

We finished our Top 100 list, so now it’s time for a new project:  100+ resorts!

These are resorts that didn’t make the original list, but maybe they should have.  Not all of these meet the criteria for the 100 Best, but the ones that do may replace others on The List if we feel like they are better.

 

Criteria

• At least 1400′ vertical. This one stays because vertical drop is probably the most important stat for a fun resort
• At least 250 acres of terrain.  This one is relaxed by 50 acres to hit 2 resorts that didn’t qualify at 250 acres, so the new minimum is 200 acres.  Red River NM and Maverick Mountain MT are the 2 resorts under 250 acres.
• At least 120″ inches of snow for Canada and far northern states and 175″ for southwestern resorts. This stays the same as our Best 100 list
• At least 2 ski “pods”, or areas served by distinct lifts.  This one had to be relaxed to pick up 7 resorts that we felt would still be very interesting and unique.
• Has to have some challenging terrain.  This mostly stays, but is relaxed enough to now include more resorts from the Northeast:  Okemo, Stratton, and Waterville Valley
